Job Overview Job no: 552906 Work type: Staff Location: Monterey Bay Classification: Student Services Professional II Hours: Full-time / 40 hours per week FLSA: Exempt Salary: $5,083* per month. CSUMB provides pay scales representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for this position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined by factors such as scope and responsibilities, qualifications, departmental budget, internal equity, and CSU systemwide pay for comparable jobs. Responsibilities Provide academically complex professional student service work in advising for an assigned caseload of CSUMB students in specific majors. Offer individual and group advising, share information, and develop personalized educational plans that align with students’ personal and professional goals. Review confidential academic transcripts and evaluations; recommend appropriate coursework pursuant to the student’s goals and collaborate with other student support programs to assist students in academic difficulty; refer students to on‑campus resources. Collect, compile and disseminate information about majors, programs, and services to support student success; collaborate with academic and student support departments to facilitate enrollment, degree completion, and preparation for employment or graduate school. Prepare and deliver advising presentations and workshops on advising, career‑related services, and campus resources; collaborate with career advisors on new career exploration resources. Participate in CACSS‑related activities and meetings, orientation, support other student support programs, and represent CACSS at major fairs, preview days, open houses, and regional meetings. Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of principles of individual and group behavior, program procedures, organizational and program management, research and interview techniques. Ability to interpret program rules, plan assignments, implement improvements, collect, analyze, and evaluate data, advise students individually and in groups, recognize and respect multicultural, multi‑sexed, and multi‑aged value systems, and establish cooperative relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies, and community contacts. Minimum Qualifications Two years of professional experience in a student services program area or related field, or a master’s degree in a related field. Experience with Title V and CSU General Education requirements and FERPA is preferred. Equivalent to a four‑year college or university degree in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis. Preferred Qualifications / Desirable Experience Master’s degree in a related field. Prior academic advising or student services experience in a public 4‑year university. Experience working with a diverse student population. Knowledge of FERPA, federal regulations on educational record release, academic program requirements, and CSU policies. Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft/CSU Common Management System, Microsoft Office (Excel), Google Suite, Symplicity, Salesforce, or other relevant products. Special Conditions of Employment & Position Designations Offer of employment is contingent upon a successful background check (including a criminal records check). Designation as a sensitive position with access to detailed Level 1 confidential student information. Designation as a Campus Security Authority and required participation in annual training and event reporting per the Clery Act. May require evenings and/or occasional weekend work. Physical Environment Office environment with standard equipment. The position requires prolonged computer and desk work and occasional travel between campus offices and off‑campus locations.
