Job Description

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate senior project manager to join our commercial operations team with a focus on the planning and execution of flight demonstrations and flying displays across our domestic and international markets.

You must be organized, an excellent communicator, and experienced in the management of cross-functional and cross-border projects or programs. You will lead the planning and coordination for all aspects of flight demonstrations, encompassing all project aspects from the initial concept / feasibility determination to execution and retrograde. You don’t need to know everything about flight demonstrations, but you must effectively bring together the people who do.

During the execution phase of flight demonstrations, you will serve as the onsite leader – ensuring continuity of support for smooth, successful, and safe execution. You will work closely with multiple teams within Joby including: Flight Test and Flight Test Maintenance, Infrastructure, Safety, Business Development, Security, Legal, IT, and many others.

This role is remote and requires up to 75% international and domestic travel with travel periods typically ranging for one to six weeks at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Own the planning and execution of safe and compliant flight demonstrations and flying displays for Joby, globally
  • Project manage flight demonstrations and flying displays by driving workstream definition and accountability, progress against the project plan, and tracking of the resourcing plan and budget
  • Lead coordination of all aspects of eVTOL flight demonstrations and flying displays including: budgeting, travel and visas, aircraft flight approvals, frequency / spectrum licensing, flight profile definition, staffing plans, concept of operations, logistics, insurance, and other supporting requirements
  • Lead coordination with external entities and regulators to support flight demonstration approvals
  • Serve as the in-market and on-site focal for execution support of flight demonstrations and flying displays
  • Develop a deep understanding of Joby eVTOL air and ground operations to support flight demonstrations and leverage this perspective to support realizing Joby's commercial concept of operations

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, business, operations, aerospace, or a relevant field
  • 8+ years experience in business or aviation operations, logistics, project management, or closely related functions
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally with periods of travel typically ranging for one to six weeks at a time
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple simultaneous and interrelated projects that support a program’s objectives
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency in common workplace software: Microsoft and/or Google office tools, including working with spreadsheets

Desired

  • Prior aviation operations and / or flight demonstration experience
  • PMP or other professional project management accreditation
  • MBA or Advanced Engineering, Aerospace, Aviation or Safety degree
  • Professional proficiency in Arabic, Korean, or Japanese
