The Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to support federally funded research in infectious diseases. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a biological science and prior experience in laboratory research and/or animal care.
This position is based at the University of Maryland, College Park, just outside Washington, D.C., in a dynamic research environment supported by world-class scientists specializing in human and veterinary microbiology, as well as infectious diseases. The department offers access to advanced facilities, including BSL-3/ABSL-3 laboratories, to support cutting-edge research.
The successful candidate will join the Pal Lab, led by Dr. Utpal Pal, Professor, whose research centers on the biology of tick-borne infections, with a specific focus on Lyme disease. The lab investigates the interactions between the Borrelia burgdorferi pathogen, the causative agent of Lyme disease, and its tick vector, Ixodes scapularis, to develop innovative strategies for disease prevention and treatment.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Biological or related sciences from an accredited institution of higher education.
• Experience: A minimum of two years' experience in research coordination, administrative, or communication /technical writing experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Includes additional degree, proficiency in one or more of the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• A post-baccalaureate degree in biological sciences or a related field
• Technical writing skills, particularly related to biological or other natural sciences.
• Computational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to create and maintain orderly records.
Physical Demands: Sedentary work performed in a typical office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects-ability to attend meetings both on and off campus.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Two (2) years of experience in research coordination. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies.
Knowledge of surveys, interviews, lab procedures, experiments, or fieldwork.
Skill in written and verbal communication for reporting and collaboration.
Skill in precision data entry, analysis, and documentation.
Skill in computational and problem-solving techniques.
Skill in maintaining research records, files, and data integrity.
Ability to interpret data, identify patterns, and draw conclusions.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize workload.
Ability to work effectively with faculty, researchers, and fellow assistants.
