About the College/Unit/Department The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University and the University of Georgia partnered to create a four-year medical school campus in Athens to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians.

The AU/UGA Medical Partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the birthplace of public higher education, with the expertise from one of the country's first, and Georgia's only public medical school, the Medical College of Georgia.

In addition to increasing the number of physicians in Georgia, the partnership is expanding research collaborations between AU and UGA, creating new insights into the prevention and treatment of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Students have the opportunity to learn in small group class sizes, while having the benefit of being part of one of the largest medical schools in the United States.

Georgia currently ranks 40th in the nation in the ratio of physicians to population. It also faces a number of health challenges, including a high infant mortality rate and high rates of obesity and heart disease.   • Experience working in healthcare education either as a standardized patient trainer/educator or patient educator.
  • Professional simulation experience in an academic setting.
  • Experience in education, theater/performance, or healthcare.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance methods.
  • Public speaking/platform skills; experience giving presentations to groups.

Position Summary The Standardized Patient (SP) Educator facilitates the training of standardized patients used in multiple educational programs to meet educational objectives and program requirements. This position's duties include, but are not limited to training, setting up/breaking down events, reviewing and distributing case materials, and performing quality assessment of the SPs' performance. This position reports to the Standardized Patient Program Coordinator. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Ability to train SPs effectively for their roles in a variety of scheduled educational activities, following established protocols and objectives.
  • Skilled in observing and assessing both learner and SP behaviors to ensure accurate performance evaluations.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Skilled in managing complex schedules and logistics.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear verbal and written expression, active listening, and the ability to provide thoughtful, actionable feedback.
  • Knowledge of educational technology (AV, computer, electronics, medical equipment) and software systems (SimCapture Clinical Skills Assessment/Recording System, Qualtrics, Desire2Learn, Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of general medical terminology, history-taking, and basic physical examination.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills, with the ability to generate, review, and correct reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Facilitates the training of all standardized patients in all aspects of case portrayal, checklist item recognition, physical exam procedures, feedback training and communication. This includes human, hybrid, virtual, and mixed modality simulation.
  • Collaborates in the development, editing, and maintenance of SP cases/scenarios.
  • Develops training materials and resources.
  • Assists with case and script development.
Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities
  • Coordinates dissemination of activity material to SPs.
  • Serve as a backup Standardized Patient as needed.
  • Assists Program Coordinator in selecting Standardized Patients (SP) for role portrayal.
  • Prepares and updates materials for each standardized patient encounter, such as assignments, scenarios, checklist, handouts, evaluations, schedules and room assignments.
Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities
  • Organizes rooms and sets up equipment (case props, iPads) for learner activities.
  • Monitors SP comments in SimCapture for accuracy in student performance evaluations/checklists (quality assurance).
  • Observes SPs performance and provides timely effective feedback to support performance goals.
  • Collects and analyses data for annual SP evaluations under the guidance of program coordinator
